Janam (Birth) was a 1985, Hindi film directed and written by Mahesh Bhatt. It is part of the autobiographical films he made in the early part of his career.
Janam came after his much acclaimed films like Arth (1982) and Saaransh (1984), and clearly established Mahesh Bhatt as a promising new director of the Indian film industry, much before he ventured into his more commercial ventures.
This film was to be followed by other films with similar themes from his personal life, most noted among them were, Naam (1986) and much later, Zakhm (1998) and Woh Lamhe (2006), films for which he provided the story.
